First Bankers Trust Makes Second Large Donation to Bill Klingner Trail Fundraising Campaign

Only $19,000 Left to Raise to meet $500,000 Goal

Quincy, IL  – First Bankers Trust recently made a second large donation to the Complete Bill Klingner Trail (formerly Cedar Creek Trail) Campaign bringing their total contribution to $8,000. This is the second installment of a $12,000 pledge. The organization joins many other individuals and organizations that have pledged their support to the campaign which will fund the construction of the trail from 12th street to 5th street. The campaign began in the spring of 2012 with a goal of $500,000 by December 31, 2014. The Friends of the Trails is leading the fundraising effort and if the goal is achieved the Quincy Park Board has committed to match the funds.

“We’ve made significant progress in this effort in a short amount of time,” said campaign co-chairman Terry Anastas. “The generosity of this community is astounding and we can’t say enough about businesses like First Bankers Trust who continue to invest in this project.”

The concept of the Bill Klingner Trail was developed in the 1940’s as part of a plan to increase city parks and protect greenways throughout the city.  When the Quincy Greenway & Trails Plan was adopted in the late 1990’s, efforts began to construct the trail. When completed a multi-use trail will connect 36th Street and Bonansinga Drive. The construction of this trail will ensure the Cedar Creek Corridor remains undeveloped and accessible to the community for years to come.

“This trail is an investment in our community, in our environmental sustainability, and in our future,” said Friends of the Trails Board President Cullan Duke. “Completing this trail isn’t just about checking something off a to do list, it’s about realizing the dream of a group of forward-thinking individuals who, 70 years ago, realized the positive impact this trail would have on our city.”

The Friends of the Trails will continue to raise funds with the hope that the $500,000 goal will be met in early 2014. To accomplish this they continue to turn to the community for support. If you would like to help in the fundraising effort, please send a donation to Friends of the Trails, P.O. Box 184, Quincy, IL 62306 or donate online at www.friendsofthetrails.org.
